FaceBook – hiding newsfeed from friends
Tired of getting constant updates from friends on FaceBook that post every activity they do?
You can turn on/off display of such updates:
- First, go to your FB HOME page by either clicking on the FB icon on top left of the page or the ‘Home’ label next to it. You should now see ‘News feed’ in the left column. Unless you rearranged the page, by default, it should be on the very top of the column/list. Click it once. This will list all the updates from your friends in the center column.
- WATCH YOUR SCREEN CAREFULLY – as you move your cursor to the text of the title of their update, to the right of title a button called ‘Hide’ with a drop down arrow will show up. When you click on that button, a text box with ‘Hide [friend name]‘ will appear. Click on it and their stories will no long show up until you decide to UNHIDE them.
To UNHIDE, do step #1 again and this time, scroll to the very bottom of the page – this may be a long scroll down depending on how many posts are displayed so, keep going. The second to the last line will say ‘Older posts’ and ‘Edit options.’ When you click on the Edit options, you can now unhide the news feeds you want.

Alternate Browsers
- Navigator (Netscape) – now discontinued. Stable and compatible regardless of web site format
- Firefox – www.firefox.com – especially with ‘Speed Dial’ and ‘Google Toolbar’ add-ins
- Opera – www.opera.com – classy, requires intuition & intellect to use it. If you can think of a possibility, chances are that opera has that feature
- Safari – www.apple.com/safari/ – ‘Google Toolbar’ does not work with it.
- Chrome – www.google.com/chrome/?hl=en – this is a Windows version with a Mac version in beta
